Christian Speculative Fiction Authors and Where To Find Them

A short while ago, I promised to give you the names of some talented authors of Christian spec-fic to fuel your appetite for the thinking person’s genres. Speculative fiction is a wide category, encompassing horror, sci-fi-, fantasy, steampunk, urban fantasy and so much more. It’s where the more imaginative writing falls.

So if you’re a Christian and you enjoy tales of robots, vampires, dragons, zombies, faeries, air pirates and all other things strange and wonderful, you need to check out these authors. [Links to Amazon and Goodreads author pages are included at the bottom of this post].

In no particular order [and this list is by no means exhaustive]:

Allan & Aaron Reini. This father and son literary team have been featured on Strangers and Aliens [Episode 58]. Their debut sci-fi novel, Flight of the Angels is Left Behind meets Battlestar Galactica with just a dash of the Terminator thrown in for good measure. A lot of fun. I am waiting pensively for the sequel. You can read my full review here.

Robert Mullin has seen more than a few reviews on SpeculativeFaith.com and not without cause! Bid the Gods Arise is a genre-bending space opera – bit like Star Wars meets the Sword of Truth with elements of the Gladiator tossed in. This is another debut novel that left me waiting for the sequel. You can read my full review here.

If you’re looking for a YA series involving time travel, humor, action, dinosaurs, and some practical apologetics thrown in, you should check out Tim Chaffey & Joe Westbrook‘s Truth Chronicles sextet. The series includes cover and chapter illustrations in the manga style by the incomparable Inkhana [Melissa Mathis]. Read my review of Book 1: The Time Machine here.

Since we’ve mentioned YA, Matthew Christian Harding‘s Peleg Chronicles are outstanding demonstrations of Biblically faithful fiction that includes dragons, ogres and chivalry in a post-Flood world. His characters are truly interesting and I intend to finish the trilogy soon. Read my review of Book 1: Foundlings here.

Peter Stone‘s A Knight from Dein takes the cake when it comes to consistent codes of chivalry. This under-rated book a definitely favorite of mine. Read my full review here.

Beginning the category of authors whose books I have not [yet] read but come highly recommended by my friends and fellow authors, we begin with M.E. Brines. The Queen’s Martian Rifles is
an alternate steampunk adventure set in world where Nicola Tesla has invented an anti-gravity coil that made steam-powered spaceships possible in the last decades of the 19th century. It also received a 2012 CROW [Creative Reads by Outstanding Writers] Award from Gnostalgia.

Kerry Nietz’ Amish Vampires in Space is definitely on my wish list. The title sounds silly but I have it on good word that its a great read and manages to tackle some doctrinal and philosophical issues along the way. As far as I’m concerned, making Jimmy Fallon’s Do Not Read list is actually bragging rights.

Kathy Tyers – Daystar, the last book in the Firebird sci-fi alternate universe, won a  2013 Carol award. This tale of the coming of a Messiah in a universe where mankind has taken to the stars promises to be an intriguing read.

Last but not least, Frank Creed‘s Flashpoint was recommended to me by so many people that I actually lost count. Apparently, I’ve got to get around to reading that book!

As promised, here is a list of Amazon and Goodreads author sites, so you can check out all they have to offer. [Yes, I’ve included myself in these links, but what did you expect really?] Happy reading and I hope you discover your next favorite author on this list!
